What is water.day?

water.day is a digital magazine and micro-learning space centred on water. We're designed to educate, inspire, and connect people around the topic of water, with a special focus on Gen Z and Young Millennials — but with content that resonates across all ages.

Why water, why now?

We drink it, shower in it, build cities around it – but most days, water is invisible to us. It’s either a bill to pay, a crisis headline, or something that “just comes from the tap”. That quiet disconnection shapes how we feel, how we consume, and how we imagine the future.

Tired of guilt-driven wellness? Water offers something real: a way back to agency that's tangible, accessible, and honest.

We feel disconnected

Water is everywhere in our lives, yet rarely in our consciousness or emotions.

We miss the full picture

Behind your cold shower, burger, and energy drink: physics, impact, and power you didn't know you had.

We need new rituals, not more guilt

Change starts with attention, not optimization. Curiosity, not pressure. Water, not another wellness trend.

How a journey turned into a water movement

A word from Oliver, founder of water.day, on how a personal journey  grew into a mission to help people reconnect with water.

Hi, I'm Oliver.
Born in Bremen (Germany) between the Weser River and the North Sea, water was always there – yet I never saw it. For over 25 years, I worked in IT across Europe, following the predetermined path: education, career, success. But underneath ran this nagging emptiness – the feeling I should use my energy for something greater than the next tech trend.
In 2022, I began studying water – attending conferences across Europe, speaking with scientists, communities, and innovators. The clearer it became, the more disconnected my life in Switzerland felt.

So I took my wife and three children on a year-long trip around the world to understand what it takes to start a global water movement. We found many wonderful initiatives, but nothing that helps people connect with water on a personal level – to ground, heal, and grow.

That's why I founded water.day: a platform to reconnect with water as part of a thriving global community.

Catch you by the water,

Oliver
Global Citizen, Water Ambassador and Always Curious.
Oliver’s vision
We heal and unite the world with water.

Make your day
a water day

You already touch water dozens of times a day – in your glass, your shower, your food and your city. water.day is here to turn some of those moments into something more conscious, more caring and a little calmer. It’s free to explore, and you don’t need an account to begin.

FAQS

Questions you might have

Is water.day the World Water Day?

Nope! World Water Day is a United Nations (UN) event that happens once a year (March 22) to raise awareness about global water issues. It's important, but it's one day focused on advocacy and policy.

water.day is your everyday space – not an event, but a platform you can return to whenever you need it. We're here 365 days a year with articles, facts and rituals that help you actually connect with water in your daily life, not just hear about water crises once a year.

Think of it this way: World Water Day is the big conference. water.day is a global movement you're actually part of – exploring water through wellness, science, culture and justice on your own time, at your own pace.

Do I need to create an account?

Nope! Right now you can explore water.day without an account. Soon you’ll be able to create a profile to save favourites, revisit your rituals and unlock more tools as we build them.

Is water.day free to use?

Yes! You can read articles, explore fact cards and visit the Community Wall for free. In the future, some advanced tools or experiences might become part of a paid tier, but the core exploration will stay open.

What topics are covered by water.day?

We explore water through every lens that matters – because water touches everything in your life, whether you notice it or not.
‍
‍Beyond the four main pillars and the obvious: We also explore water's role in spirituality and religion, animals and nature, technology, fashion (yes, really), cleaning, politics, and how water shapes your entire lifestyle.

If it connects to water – and honestly, what doesn't? – we're probably writing about it or planning to.

Is water.day an app or a website?

water.day is a web-based digital magazine and micro-learning space. You can open it in your browser on mobile, tablet or desktop – no download needed.

Can I use water.day in my classroom or community?

Absolutely! You’re welcome to use our articles, facts and rituals as conversation starters. If you’d like to collaborate on tailored formats, you can reach out to us via the Get in touch page.

How can I contribute to water.day?

We're building this with three types of partners.

‍External authors ("Author"): If you're deep in the water world – scientist, healer, practitioner, self-taught expert – and have something real to say to Gen Z and young millennials, we want your voice. Commit to at least one article per quarter.

‍Water sector entrepreneurs ("Entrepreneur"): Developed a method, product, or technology that helps people through water? If your solution is genuinely innovative and reaches real people (B2C or B2B2C), let's talk about featuring it.

‍Sales & Marketing partners ("Sales"): Got a B2C product or solution that aligns with water.day's values? Let's collaborate to reach more people together. Ready to dive in?

Contact us at hello@water.day and include the relevant code word so we know how you want to contribute.

Are there plans for in-person events?

Yes! We're planning our first global gatherings in the second half of 2026 – bringing together water-curious people from around the world in Bali, Europe, and Hawaii.

These won't be typical conferences. Think of immersive experiences where you can connect with others who see water as more than just H₂O – through workshops, rituals, conversations, and direct encounters with local waters and communities.

We're still designing what these gatherings will look like, so if you have ideas or want to stay in the loop, drop us a line at hello@water.day or follow us on Instagram/TikTok for updates.
